After a series of mixed performances in the Champions League qualifiers, PAOK will be aiming to bounce back against Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League qualification. The Greek side is considered the clear favourite, and the Irish team is struggling with defensive issues.
In their first five matches of the new season, PAOK scored 12 goals, and eight in three games in August. In Thessaloniki, the team lacked the strong start with three accurate shots in the first 23 minutes to overcome Malmö—the Swedish opponents managed to equalise in the last minute, and then clinched the next round spot in extra time. Over the weekend against Panserraikos, PAOK faced challenges again (3:2), although their attack was effective (19 shots and 64% possession).
In the past month, Shamrock Rovers have conceded eight goals in four European matches. They are yet to secure an away victory in the Champions League and Europa League qualifiers—at Celje, they allowed 14 shots on their goal (0:1). A formation with three defenders will not provide the team with reliability—chances against the Rovers will continue to be created consistently.
PAOK already secured two wins against Shamrock Rovers in the Europa League group stage back in autumn 2011 (2:1 and 3:1). The Greek side’s lineup leaves them with no other expectations—they are expected to claim a convincing victory over the Rovers
