Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
For Watford to stake a claim for promotion to the Premier League, they need to address their dismal away form. Meanwhile, Luton Town might be in need of more than just minor adjustments—perhaps a complete overhaul is required.
Luton Town
Rob Edwards took charge at Luton Town in November 2022. The previous manager was relieved of his duties when the club was only three points adrift of a playoff spot, conveniently during the World Cup break. However, sitting in 21st place now, immediately after their Premier League stint, poses a greater issue than being 10th back then. Edwards, who led the club to the Premier League for the first time, still retains the management's confidence, but having the third most valuable squad should mean aiming for more than just survival. A victory over Watford is crucial, as any further slip could lead to drastic consequences. After a promising spell in mid-September with wins over Millwall and Sheffield Wednesday, unnecessary setbacks followed against Plymouth Argyle (1:3) and Oxford United (2:2).
Watford
Watford's head coach Tom Cleverley is not under as much pressure as Edwards. Although they have suffered three successive away defeats, they compensate with strong performances at Vicarage Road. In five home games, their only dropped points were in a draw with Coventry City (1:1). However, the away record needs urgent improvement.
Luton Town vs Watford Prediction
Will Watford inevitably lose to Luton Town? In football, and especially in the Championship, generosity doesn’t exist. Regarding recent head-to-heads, the home team have emerged victorious and kept clean sheets in all of the past four encounters. Given Watford's recent away thrashings and Luton's motivation to set things right, backing the home side could be a lucrative choice.
