Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the US Open match.
Matteo Arnaldi
Matteo Arnaldi is still without an ATP title, but he compensates for that with consistent results. The Italian tennis player has shown the ability to compete on any surface, including majors. Arnaldi made his Grand Slam debut last season at Roland Garros and has since reached the second week of tournaments twice. This year, his Grand Slam losses have only come against players in the top 30: Alex de Minaur (10) in Melbourne, Stefanos Tsitsipas (9) in Paris, and Frances Tiafoe (29) at Wimbledon.
Roman Safiullin
Roman Safiullin has confirmed his status as an extremely inconsistent and unreliable player, capable of struggling against virtually any opponent. In the first round, he faced Matthew Forbes (ranked 1848), who has never competed outside ITF tournaments. Even in this match, the Russian had to recover from 2-5 down in the second set, losing his serve twice.
Matteo Arnaldi - Roman Safiullin Prediction
Over the long term, Arnaldi has proven to be a more reliable and capable player who maintains a certain level of performance. Safiullin is good as a significantly underestimated underdog against elite-level opponents. In this situation, however, we'll choose more stable choice in favour of the favourite.
