Adam Williams presents his prediction for the UFC 310 fight.
Themba Gorimbo
Gorimbo’s awkward but powerful punches will slow Luque down and force him to fight more cautiously. Themba will start with a few probing straight punches, then ramp up the pressure with endless hooks from long range. When Vicente decides to retreat, Gorimbo will catch him with destructive kicks or sweeping overhands. Themba will either catch his opponent's leg or lift him off the ground for a takedown. On the mat, Gorimbo will hunt for a choke or, at the very least, prevent Luque from getting back up quickly.
Vicente Luque
Luque will attack from the flanks with double jabs while maintaining a high guard. Through inside low kicks and slicing crosses, he will try to halt his opponent’s advance and push him out of the centre of the octagon. Vicente’s defence will absorb several shots before he charges in with heavy hooks at close range. Luque is ready to clinch with Gorimbo and throw him when grappling begins. Vicente will also seize the opportunity to lock in a choke while standing. It's unlikely that Luque will pursue a takedown himself, but during exchanges at the cage, he might drag his opponent to the canvas and go for the finish.
Betting Odds
Bookmakers favour Themba, a versatile and powerful fighter whose unconventional techniques baffle most opponents. Odds for a Gorimbo win stand at 13/20.
Vicente displays consistently average performances and seems to be on a downturn. Betting on a Luque victory offers odds of 13/10.
Themba Gorimbo vs Vicente Luque Prediction
Luque will focus on technique and aim to pick apart his opponent from a safe distance. Occasionally, he may unleash a power series, but he will primarily focus on scoring points. Gorimbo will adopt a harder approach, with his multi-strike combinations finding their target. Themba will capitalise on any opportunity to take Vicente to the canvas and keep him there through sheer physical strength. We doubt Luque can avoid the ground game for long, and even in stand-up, Gorimbo’s long reach will pose significant challenges. Our favourite is Themba, who will win the fight either by judges' decision or by catching his opponent in a choke.
