Viking Runecraft 100: Design and Theme
🖼️ Graphics
In the base game, the slot greets you with cold cliffs and green northern lights in the background. To the right of the grid, Thor, Freya and Heimdall appear one by one, each with their own personality and animations, while hammers, helmets, anchors and axes spin on the reels in a style inspired by Scandinavian runes. When the active god changes, the overall look remains calm and slightly gloomy.
When the free spins and Ragnarök modes launch, the background suddenly turns red, icy landscapes give way to lava hills and smoke, and the chosen god stands beside the grid as if you’ve reached a fiery Midgard. The grid clears faster, the multipliers above bounce upwards, and the game stops feeling measured — it seems like just a few more cascades and the screen might explode.
🎶 Sound
The sound is classic Play’n GO in Nordic style. A steady “Viking music” track with percussion and strings plays in the background. As clusters grow and the multiplier increases, the melody becomes louder and more tense. The gods’ abilities are accompanied by voice lines and distinct effects, making each God Power activation feel like a small cut-scene rather than just a symbol change.
Wins and grid clears are marked with bright flashes and a heavy rumble that matches the fire-and-ice visuals. The audio is clean and not harsh, though during long sessions it can get tiring — so having the option to mute the music and keep only the effects is genuinely useful here.

The whole game is built around cascades. Winning clusters of 3 or more identical symbols horizontally or vertically disappear, the symbols above them fall down, and new ones drop into the empty spaces from above. With every new cascade within a single round, the win multiplier increases — and this multiplier becomes especially important in Ragnarök and free spins.

Special Symbols
In Viking Runecraft 100, there is only one special symbol — the wild — and most of the game’s refined mechanics revolve around it. This is a case where a single symbol replaces an entire set of typical “specials” and performs several roles at once:
- Pays on its own. A cluster of 3 wilds awards x1 your stake, 4 wilds — x2, 5 wilds — x50.
- Substitutes all regular symbols.
- Wilds do not disappear during cascades as separate symbols. When the game removes a win consisting of exactly three identical symbols, a single wild appears in the centre of that trio. Freya can also “throw in” extra wilds with her ability.
- If after a cascade only wilds remain on the grid, the game still removes them to count the grid as fully cleared. This is what enables the full-clear reward and triggers free spins via Ragnarök.
Bonus Game
There are several bonus mechanics; they activate in sequence and can keep the grid “alive” for quite a long time.
- God Power in the base game. On any non-winning spin, the active god on the right may randomly trigger their ability. Thor (Thunder) transforms one symbol type into another; Freya (Magic) adds 1–2 extra wilds to the grid; Heimdall (Vision) removes two symbol types at once, opening space for fresh drops. After an ability triggers, the power rotates to the next god in order.
- God Meter and Ragnarök. Any winning cluster containing gods charges the meter on the left. A cluster of 3 gods fills one section, 4 gods — two sections, 5 gods — three sections. When all three sections are full and no further wins occur in the current round, one free Ragnarök round starts, with the multiplier reset to x1. On each non-winning cascade during this special round, all three gods activate their powers in a fixed order: first Thor, then Freya, then Heimdall.
- Free spins of the chosen god. If you manage to clear the grid completely during Ragnarök, the game does not award the instant prize — instead, it sends you straight into free spins. Before they begin, you must choose one of the gods. Thor awards 4 spins, Freya — 5, Heimdall — 8. The multiplier from Ragnarök carries over into the bonus and no longer resets between spins, and it can rise up to x100. On every non-winning spin, the chosen god’s ability triggers, and a filled god meter adds extra spins — 4 from Thor, 3 from Freya, or 2 from Heimdall. In total, you can earn up to 100 free spins in this bonus.
- Full Grid Clear Reward. At any point in the game — except during Ragnarök — if all symbols disappear from the grid, the player receives a fixed payout of x50 the total stake, multiplied by the current win multiplier.
RTP, Volatility, Max Win
The RTP of Viking Runecraft 100 is 96.20%. This is the standard configuration most major licensed casinos use, although in theory, lower RTP versions with reduced return percentages also exist.
The slot has high volatility, which is easy to feel — it can “chew through” the balance for a long time without bonuses, while still offering strong potential when Ragnarök, free spins and a growing multiplier come into play, pushing the value towards x50 and beyond. The maximum stated win is x15,000 your stake in a single round, and once the slot reaches that ceiling, it cannot award anything further.
Our Verdict
Viking Runecraft 100 feels like a hybrid of the original Viking Runecraft and the Moon Princess / Rise of Olympus line, only with a male pantheon and heavier maths. In the base game, it may seem slow or even slightly dull, especially when God Power stubbornly refuses to trigger — but once the god meter and the multiplier start working, it becomes clear why the cap is set at x15,000. Ragnarök and free spins with a persistent multiplier can pull a session out of the red, but reaching them without buying the bonus is tough — sometimes even nerve-racking.
We’d recommend this slot to players already familiar with Play’n GO’s “100” series and ready to handle high volatility for the sake of strong bursts rather than steady trickles of small wins. New players should start with the demo, see how the cascading multiplier and god meter work, and only then decide whether it’s worth entering with real money. Remember that spin results are random, and long downswings here aren’t a bug — they’re part of the design.
If you want a similar grid-based mechanic but in a lighter, more cartoon style, check out Moon Princess — it also uses heroine powers and meter progression, but with softer volatility and anime visuals. For those who prefer a divine theme with a more serious tone, Rise of Olympus offers comparable cascading gameplay and strong potential, but with a different atmosphere and set of effects.
