Legacy of Dead: Design and Theme
🖼️ Graphics
Legacy of Dead looks exactly like the image that comes to mind when someone says “ancient temple.” The reels are set inside a torch-lit tomb, its sandstone walls carved with faint reliefs, while tall pillars throw calm shadows across the chamber. The palette—gold, blue, and brown—avoids both neon flash and gritty darkness.
The symbols are cleanly drawn: the pharaoh and deities like Anubis and Horus are instantly recognisable without drowning in detail. The golden sarcophagus is the star here, acting as both the Wild and Scatter. During the bonus round, small icons above the reels light up to show which expanding symbols are active—simple, yet genuinely helpful when the retriggers start piling up.
🎶 Sound
The soundtrack builds quiet tension, full of Egyptian-style motifs that make it feel as if we’re crawling through an abandoned tomb with a camera crew and dramatic background score. Even the win chimes keep to the theme. When the bonus kicks in, the music grows louder and denser, its rhythm tightening to mark the moment. It works well—for a while. But anyone planning a few hundred spins will soon find the single looping track tiring; that mute button quickly becomes a trusted ally.

Winning combinations
Before we look at numbers, a quick note on how betting works here. In Legacy of Dead, we choose the number of active paylines and the number of coins per line. The paytable shows prizes in coins at 1 coin per line; if we play 2 coins per line, every prize simply doubles, and if we choose a 0.25 coin value, 100 coins become 25 in cash terms.

Special symbols
-
Golden Sarcophagus — the slot’s double-duty icon. As a Wild, it substitutes for any other symbol to complete winning lines; as a Scatter, it triggers the Free Spins when three or more appear anywhere on the reels. It also pays on its own: 10 coins for 2 symbols, 100 for 3, 1,000 for 4, and 5,000 for 5.
-
Expanding Symbol — this feature comes alive only during Free Spins. Before the bonus starts, one regular symbol is chosen at random to become the expander. Whenever enough of these land to form a win, they stretch to fill their reels and pay as a full combination, even if they’re not aligned on traditional paylines.
Bonus game
-
The bonus triggers with 3+ Scatters and starts with 8 Free Spins.
-
Before spins begin, one regular symbol is randomly chosen to become a special expanding symbol.
-
During the bonus, 3+ Scatters retrigger +8 spins and add another expanding symbol; with enough retriggers you can stack up to 9 special symbols.
-
Retriggers are unlimited, so in theory the feature can run for a long time.
-
All Free Spins play on the same bet and lines as the triggering spin.
After any win — including after the bonus — we can use Gamble: pick colour to double or suit to quadruple the prize.
RTP, Volatility and Maximum Win
The default RTP is 96.58%, but Play’n GO supplies several profiles, so casinos may run lower settings (common alternates include 94.51% and 91.51%). Always check the help file of the site you’re playing on. Volatility is high — dry spells happen, but the bonus can snowball with multiple expanders.
The maximum win is x5,000 your bet per game round. If this cap is reached, the feature ends immediately, and no further payouts from that round are awarded.
Our verdict
We’ve spent enough spins in this tomb to know its moods. Legacy of Dead doesn’t surprise anyone familiar with the “Book of…” formula — it just executes it cleanly. The expanding symbols still deliver a satisfying punch, especially when several of them come alive at once. The flip side is the long wait for the bonus; between retriggers and dry runs, you’ll need patience here.
If you want to stay in ancient Egypt but try something different, we’d recommend Cleocatra (for a more modern twist with sticky wilds) or Sun of Egypt 3 (with Hold & Win jackpots instead of expanding symbols).
