Design and Theme
🖼️ Graphics
Le Viking is made in Hacksaw’s recognisable cartoon style — a bit rough, deliberately flat, and slightly cheeky. The background shows a fjord village with a drakkar, spruce forest, and neatly drawn wooden huts. Symbols include Viking weapons, helmets, coins, and of course, skulls — which look especially good in bonus modes. During free spins, the background changes: you're now aboard a ship in a storm.
There is animation, but it’s subtle. Symbols in winning combinations tremble slightly, bounce a bit, and light up. It’s minimalistic but lively. Smokey the raccoon, in the bottom right corner, changes facial expressions — from a smirk to outright rage, depending on the game phase.
🎶 Sound
The music in Le Viking is styled after Scandinavian folklore: drawn-out wind instruments, a calm rhythm, something between a horn and a wooden flute. It sounds soft and unobtrusive — it sets the mood but doesn’t distract. During spins, a deep sound is added, like heavy parts shifting. In bonus rounds, the melody becomes more tense but stays in the same style. Smokey is animated in the background: he occasionally moves with a light rustling sound.

Winning Combinations
Le Viking uses ways to win, not lines: symbols must land on adjacent reels from left to right. Minimum — three symbols in a row.

Special Symbols
Le Viking’s bonus rounds are built around special symbols that replace classic payouts and control game logic.
-
FS Scatter: the only symbol that can launch the life-based bonus. The more scatters you land, the more upgraded the bonus becomes.
-
Dead Symbol (Skull): pays nothing and ends the bonus if three spins in a row land only these.
-
Coins and Diamonds: Coins appear both in the base game and bonuses; they can trigger Raid Spins. Diamonds may appear before the bonus, but don’t count for triggering. In any bonus mode, both symbols stick until the final reveal: Bronze coins: x0.2–x4, Silver: x5–x20, Gold: x25, x50, or x100, Diamonds: x150, x250, or x500. Then all values are summed up.
-
Clovers: Activate after coin and diamond multipliers are shown. Green clover boosts only adjacent values. Gold boosts the entire grid. Both range from x2 to x20. Each clover activates once and then stays passive.
-
Grid Multiplier: Not a separate symbol, but a property of cells hit by scatters. The value (x2, x3, x5, or x10) is fixed at bonus start and multiplies whatever lands in that spot.
-
Magic Cauldron: Only appears during free spins. When it lands, it activates all nearby clovers and cell multipliers — which are then applied to adjacent coins, diamonds, or other cauldrons. Then the cauldron collects those values: affected symbols disappear, their multipliers are removed, and the collected total is instantly added to your win. A cauldron can trigger once but stays on the grid until the end of the bonus.
Bonus Game
Le Viking has two main bonus features: Raid Spins and free spins with lives. Both work on a simple principle — as long as something lands, you survive.
-
Raid Spins: Triggered when 6 coins appear in one spin. These 6 stay on the grid and count as the first successful drop, so the life counter starts at 3. Then, only dead symbols, new coins, diamonds, and clovers can land. Three empty spins in a row end the mode; coins and diamonds are revealed, and clovers boost the result.
-
Berserk Free Spins: Base free spins if you land 3 FS scatters. Same mechanic, same lives, but with more features: grid multipliers and cauldrons are added. x2 multipliers appear on the cells where scatters landed.
-
Valkyrie Free Spins: 4 scatters trigger the same game, but the grid starts with four x3 multipliers. The difference is only in numbers, not mechanics.
-
Ragnarök Free Spins: 5 scatters — five x5 cells. Everything else is the same.
-
Journey to Valhalla Free Spins: Top level — 6 FS scatters. The grid starts with six x10 multipliers, and bronze and silver coins don’t appear. Only gold and diamonds. This is high risk: the bonus can end quickly — but if it hits, it hits big.
RTP, Volatility, Max Win
The base RTP in Le Viking is 96.32%, with volatility rated as medium (3 out of 5). However, bought bonuses are a different story: Raid Spins have lower volatility (medium), while free spins — from Berserk to Ragnarök — are marked as high and very high. Bonushunt, as expected from an ante mode, is the riskiest.
Maximum win — x10,000 your bet. If this hits during a bonus, the game ends immediately.
Our Verdict
Le Viking is a slot where everything revolves around bonuses. The base game is more of a formality: combinations hit every few spins, but pay little. Coins appear almost constantly, but collecting the required six is rare.
The real game starts in the bonus modes. Naturally triggered Berserk Free Spins gave modest multipliers, green clovers added a bit, and the result felt tangible.
Bought features played out predictably. Raid for x30 didn’t pay off — lives ended before the grid filled. Berserk Free Spins barely broke even, but clovers showed potential. Ragnarök turned out most promising: the first buy was a dud, the second turned a profit. Gold coins, clovers, and x5 multipliers finally aligned — and 34 spins didn’t waste time but returned the investment.
Valkyrie and Journey to Valhalla can’t be bought, and catching them naturally requires luck and patience. Chances of them dropping are low. In the end: base game — a filler, ante — just a warm-up. Raid is better triggered than bought. But Berserk and Ragnarök — if you're paying, pay for those, hoping for a clover next to something serious.
If you're looking for something similar:
-
Chaos Crew II — respins with lives, but in a darker setting and with powerful multipliers.
-
Le Bandit — a slot from the same raccoon universe: similar symbols, but bonuses are based on accumulation, not lives.
