Design and Theme
🖼️ Graphics
In the background — the columns of an Ancient Egyptian temple with bas-reliefs and soft lighting. The grid itself is framed with golden borders, visually separating the reels from the background. The symbols are clear, with a bright palette: golden letters, saturated icon colours, and detailed drawings of the Pharaohs and Anubis. With winning combinations, the symbols animate slightly — they move and highlight. Despite the age of the slot, it still looks respectable: no pixels, everything rendered cleanly.
🎶 Sound
In the background — a melody with a distinct Eastern motif, without being intrusive. The reels spin with a light clicking sound, and on a win, you hear a sharp signal. If a combination lands and the slot is waiting for a decision — whether to collect or launch the gamble feature — a ticking sound starts, like a countdown. However, it is worth noting that the scatter sound stands out from the overall style — it appears abruptly and unexpectedly, especially when playing at full volume.

Winning Combinations
The paytable in Book of Dead is ridiculously simple: it shows how many coins you get for a combination on a single line at a bet of 1 coin. How many lines are active doesn’t matter: the win in coins doesn’t change, only your total bet does, because it is calculated as “lines × coins per line × coin value”.
If you want to raise the stakes, place, for example, 2 coins per line, and any win in coins from the table is automatically multiplied by 2. Then comes Coin Value: with a coin price of 0.10, 5 coins become 0.50; with 0.01 — 0.05. The slot itself doesn’t calculate “x of the total stake”; if you’re curious, just compare how many coins you put in and how many came back. The maths here is old-fashioned and awkward, but we didn’t invent it — that’s how Book of Dead has lived since 2016. It may sound daunting, but after a couple of dozen spins in Book of Dead free play, the payout logic becomes clear.

Special Symbols
- Wild and Scatter (the Book): appears in any position, substitutes for any other symbols, and with 3 or more triggers free spins. In addition, it pays on its own: x2 coins, x20 coins, or x200 coins for 3, 4, or 5 symbols.
- Expanding Symbol — before free spins, one of the regular symbols is randomly chosen. During the bonus, if it can form a win on an active line, it expands across the entire reel. These symbols don’t have to be adjacent, but must be on an active line.
Bonus Game
3+ scatters in Book of Dead online slot trigger free spins:
- At the start, one regular symbol is chosen — it will work “with special rights”
- Free spins are always 10, with no choice or levels
- The expansion triggers only if there is a potential win
- Extra 3+ books during the bonus give another 10 spins — and so on infinitely (in theory)
After the bonus (and in the base game) you can launch Gamble: guess the card colour — double the win; guess the suit — get x4. Maximum — 5 attempts in a row or up to 2500 coins.
RTP, Volatility, Max Win
The RTP of Book of Dead is 96.21%, with a high volatility level. The maximum win is x5000 times your bet.
Our Verdict
In the base game, the slot pays modestly but regularly — wins about once every 5–8 spins. Most of the time, basic symbols play, and if it weren’t for the occasional wilds on reels 1–2, it would be quite dull. Sometimes, with a wild, you can form a good line, but it’s rare. The balance holds not perfectly, but without drama: it decreases slowly, and from time to time, some combination returns up to 20 bets at once. The main thing — don’t turn off paylines: they land without any logic, and playing on 3–5 lines can simply bury your chance for something decent.
The bonus took a long time — more than 200 spins. The “A” symbol expanded on reels 1, 2, and 5 already on the first free spin and immediately filled all lines. Result — half the losses returned. After 5 spins, the bonus came again, this time with “K” as the expanding symbol. It landed almost every spin, sometimes on 3–4 reels, plus the wilds helped out. After this bonus, the balance almost broke even. Overall — not thrilling, but not wasted either.
We tested the Gamble feature carefully: out of 6 attempts, only one was successful. A normal picture for such slots.
If you want something in the same spirit:
- Lucky Lady's Charm Deluxe — also a line slot with free spins and a classic style
- Shining Crown— a fruit retro slot with fixed paylines, jackpots, and the same gamble feature.
