An excellent start to the season by the revamped Torino is unlikely to allow Venezia to secure a long-awaited victory in their debut home game. Currently, the Turin club looks more promising: they held their own against last season’s top-five Serie A representatives and advanced to the next round of the Italian Cup.
Interestingly, Venezia's early season schedule is somewhat similar to Torino's. However, the newly promoted Italian elite side has not fared well in their encounters. They had 2.99 xGA (11th in the league) and scored only one goal from 1.80 xG over 180 minutes. Additionally, their elimination from the Coppa Italia by Brescia (1:3) indicates that Venezia are simply not ready for full-fledged competition in Serie A.
The exciting Torino have delighted in August with their attacking mindset—the coaching change from Ivan Juric to Paolo Vanoli has worked positively. The team took four out of six possible points against AC Milan (2:2) and Atalanta (2:1), creating 3.38 xG against these giants. Notably, Torino have effectively integrated newcomer Ché Adams into the squad: the Scotsman scored the winning goal against Atalanta and received the highest rating of the match.
Paolo Vanoli has proven that his team can compete with top opponents even without the injured Nikola Vlašić and Perr Schuurs, and these absences won’t be missed against an inconsistent Venezia. Betting on Torino with a handicap (0) appears to be a safe option.
