Chelsea vs Leicester City: betting odds 9 Mar 2025

The Matchday 28 Premier League clash between Chelsea and Leicester will take place on March 9 at Stamford Bridge in London. Chelsea vs. Leicester: prediction and betting odds, statistics.

Chelsea

The Londoners finally secured a convincing victory in the league, thrashing Southampton 4-0 at home in the last round. Notably, Chelsea last achieved a big win in the Premier League in early December, also against this opponent. They also ended a two-match losing streak in the Premier League, where Enzo Maresca's side lost away to Brighton (0-3) and Aston Villa (1-2). The club reclaimed fifth place in the standings and remains just one point behind Manchester City, who are in fourth place.

  • At least three goals have been scored in Chelsea's last seven Premier League matches.
  • Both teams scored in 6 of Chelsea's last 8 league games.
  • The club scored two or more goals in 6 of their last 7 home Premier League matches.

Predicted lineup for Chelsea (4-2-3-1)

Philip Jorgensen – Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo, Marc Cucurella, Malo Gusto – Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo – Pedro Neto, Cole Palmer, Jadon Sancho – Christopher Nkunku.

Forwards Noni Madueke, Nicolas Jackson, and Marc Gui are out due to injuries, as are midfielders Omari Kellyman and Romeo Lavia, and defender Benoit Badiashile. Forward Mykhailo Mudryk continues to serve a suspension due to a failed doping test.

Leicester

Ruud van Nistelrooy's side approaches the upcoming match with a four-game losing streak in the league. In all these matches, the team failed to score: away to Everton (0-4) and West Ham (0-2), and at home to Arsenal (0-2) and Brentford (0-4). The club is in the relegation zone, five points adrift of the safety of 17th place. They have conceded 61 goals, four fewer than Southampton, who have the worst defense in the Premier League.

  • Leicester has lost 11 of their last 12 league matches.
  • The club failed to score in 6 of their last 7 Premier League games.
  • No more than three goals were scored in 7 of Leicester's last 9 Premier League matches.

Predicted lineup for Leicester (4-2-3-1)

Mads Hermansen – James Justin, Victor Kristiansen, Wout Faes, Jannik Vestergaard – Wilfred Ndidi, Boubakary Soumare – Bobby Decordova-Reid, Bilal El Khannous, Facundo Buonanotte – Jamie Vardy.

Midfielder Abdul Issahaku is out due to injury.

Chelsea vs. Leicester: Match Prediction

The Londoners have a favorable schedule, with two matches against Premier League outsiders. They have a good chance to stabilize their play, improve their standings, and re-enter the race for a Champions League spot. Enzo Maresca's side comfortably won their first match against Southampton by four goals, and I expect a similar outcome in the upcoming game.

Leicester has lost by two or more goals in 6 of their last 7 league matches. Notably, they only managed to score against Tottenham in this series. Chelsea has won all three of their last home Premier League matches, twice by more than one goal. Additionally, the Londoners have been stronger than Leicester in 5 of their last 6 Premier League encounters.

My prediction – Chelsea with a handicap (-2)

Chelsea — Leicester City betting tips 9 Mar 2025

Chelsea’s Europa Conference League last-16 first leg against FC Copenhagen on Thursday will undoubtedly affect their clash with struggling Leicester City on Sunday. However, even that might not be enough to significantly impact proceedings against Leicester City.

In that match in the Danish capital, several first-team regulars were rested. Cole Palmer made his first appearance in the Europa Conference League, while Reece James partnered Moises Caicedo - who was replaced by Enzo Fernández at half-time - in an unfamiliar central midfield role. The experiment proved fruitful, with the captain getting on the scoresheet. There was also mixed news on the injury front. Benoit Badiashile, who has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since December, made his return, playing a single half. On the downside, right-back Malo Gusto was forced off with an injury after just 25 minutes. Fortunately, Marc Cucurella stepped up and even provided an assist.

Therefore, Chelsea aren’t likely to be overly fatigued; key players were managed carefully. Leicester, on the other hand, need to rediscover their scoring touch. Their season-long form sees them averaging less than a goal a game (25 in 27), and that’s been especially true since the start of February. In fact, they failed to find the net in four league matches during that month, conceding a staggering 12 goals in the process. Only in the FA Cup have they managed to breach the opposition’s defence, scoring once against Manchester United.

With an attack struggling so badly, how can they realistically contemplate a victory? A goalless draw is theoretically possible, but Leicester last kept a clean sheet on October 5th against Bournemouth. No, Chelsea will win this one, and likely by a margin of at least two goals – a scoreline all too familiar for Leicester.
