Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the ATP Wimbledon match.
De Minaur and Djokovic have already faced each other twice this season. In January, De Minaur was victorious at the United Cup (6-4, 6-4), but Djokovic took revenge four months later on the courts of Monte Carlo. What will happen this time around?
Alex De Minaur
De Minaur is having a stellar grass court season. The world 9th has won 7 out of 8 matches. This year, he's made a significant leap at Grand Slams, where he previously struggled. Wimbledon marked his second consecutive Major quarter-final appearance.
Novak Djokovic
Djokovic wasn’t satisfied with the crowd, which supported his opponent Holger Rune (6-3, 6-4, 6-2). Despite the point differential, it wasn't Djokovic's most impressive performance. He won in a defensive style, making 22 unforced errors on 20 winning balls and got just 4 out of 14 breakpoints.
De Minaur - Djokovic Prediction
In the second set when Rune upped the pace and started to aggressively attack under the baseline, Novak faced some troubles. The young Dane just lacked calmness and self-control to beat Djokovic and turn the game around. De Minaur is in his element with that way of playing. He thrives on grinding down opponents and forcing them into long and tedious play. De Minaur excels in returning serves on grass, winning 39.3% of points compared to Djokovic's 39.5%. I'm betting on a long match where both players easily surpass the 38.5 game total.
