Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the World Cup 2026 qualifying match.
The Chilean national team, currently at the bottom of the table, desperately need a victory to begin even minimal upward movement. For Venezuela, this match is an opportunity to solidify their position in the upper part of the standings. They will heavily focus on their attack, given the questionable reliability of the hosts' defence.
Chile
Chile have struggled significantly, collecting just 6 points from 11 rounds. They are highly inefficient in attack (0.45 goals on average) and defence (1.63 goals conceded per game). In five of their last six matches, the Chileans have consistently conceded goals. Venezuela have scored with the same regularity in their head-to-head encounters. Additionally, Chile have been without a win in their last eight matches. Turning things around will be difficult, especially since the first game between these teams ended unfavourably for the hosts (0:3).
Venezuela
Venezuela displayed a strong attacking performance against Brazil (1:1), taking 12 shots, 5 of which were on target. They effectively capitalise on chances from free kicks and corners and counter-attacks. Venezuela consistently find opportunities to score and have netted in each of their last three matches. Their attack revolves around veteran Salomón Rondón, who accounts for a third of Venezuela's total goals.
Chile vs Venezuela Prediction
Venezuela have a sufficiently effective attack to exploit Chile's defensive errors. The visitors convert chances well, particularly against opponents who favour open football, as demonstrated in their match against Brazil.
