Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the Championship match.
West Bromwich Albion made a strong start but seem to be drifting away from the clear contenders for promotion to the Premier League. A trip to Oxford United promises little comfort for them. Will their winless streak continue?
Oxford United
Travelling to one of the university capitals is indeed a less-than-ideal experience. Visiting teams typically encounter disappointment, a dry spell in attack, and no points. The exceptions are Preston North End, who scored once but still lost (3:1), and Burnley, who squandered their chances (1.54 xGA) and could have conceded after Oxford United’s sole opportunity (0:0). In a recent away match against Portsmouth (1:1), Oxford United showed resilience, denying a penalty.
West Bromwich Albion
West Bromwich Albion's recent issue has been their attack, having failed to score in their last two matches. They seem to have lost their scoring ability: just one shot on target against Middlesbrough and three against Millwall. Particularly Josh Maja, who had been the team's key player, scoring in five of the first seven rounds. When they did find the target, it was directly at the goalkeeper.
Oxford United vs West Bromwich Albion Prediction
West Bromwich Albion's players can undoubtedly create chances against Oxford United's defence, but the question is whether they will convert them. Their recent matches don’t seem down to bad luck. Oxford United are very formidable at home and, in their current form, are ready to at least secure a draw.
