Lithuania vs Finland: betting odds 24 Mar 2025

The Matchday 2 World Cup 2026 qualifying match between Lithuania and Finland will take place on March 24 at the Darius and Girėnas Stadium in Kaunas. Lithuania vs. Finland: prediction and betting odds, statistics.

Lithuania

The Baltic team played their first round away in Poland, where they lost 0-1 to the national team of that country. Lithuania could have hoped for a draw, but conceded a goal in the last 10 minutes of the match. Thus, Lithuania has been unable to win in World Cup qualification for three consecutive matches, without scoring a single goal in them. Interestingly, in the previous World Cup qualifiers, the team also lost their opening match with the same result to Switzerland.

  • Lithuania has lost 14 of their last 16 matches in this qualifying campaign.
  • They have failed to score in 5 of their last 6 World Cup qualifying matches.
  • The team conceded first in 15 of their last 16 World Cup qualifying games.

Predicted lineup for Lithuania (5-3-2)

Edvinas Gertmonas – Pijus Širvys, Artemijus Tutyškynas, Edgaras Utkus, Kipras Kažukolovas, Justas Lasickas – Gvidas Gineitis, Paulius Golubickas, Domantas Antanavičius – Armandas Kučys, Artur Dolzhnikov.

Finland

Jakob Friis made a successful debut as the head coach of Finland. His team managed to defeat Malta away, although the victory was unconvincing – 1-0. The team, however, was outperformed by the modest Maltese in many aspects of the game. Notably, this was their third win in the last four European World Cup qualifying matches.

  • In their last 13 World Cup qualifying matches, Finland has lost only three times (6 wins and 4 draws).
  • No more than two goals were scored in 6 of Finland's last 8 World Cup qualifying games.
  • The team has not scored more than one goal in 6 of their last 8 World Cup qualifying matches.

Predicted lineup for Finland (5-3-2)

Jesse Joronen – Robert Ivanov, Nikolai Alho, Daniel O'Shaughnessy, Jere Uronen, Miro Tenho – Glen Kamara, Kaan Kairinen, Robin Lod – Benjamin Källman, Joel Pohjanpalo.

Match Prediction: Lithuania vs. Finland

Both games in the first round of Group G ended with the same score of 1-0. It seems the second round will also be low-scoring. The group composition is not impressive, and a high number of goals can only be expected in matches between the underdogs and the group favorite. Lithuania has not impressed even at home, where they have lost six of their last seven World Cup qualifying matches, only beating Bulgaria. In their last six home World Cup qualifiers, they scored in only two games.

Finland has only one loss in their last seven away World Cup qualifying matches (4 wins and 2 draws). However, Finland has scored more than one goal in World Cup qualification in only 7 of their last 9 away matches. A bet on no more than two goals in the match has won in 8 of Finland's last 9 away World Cup qualifying games.

My prediction: Total under 2.5 goals

Betting tips 24 Mar 2025

Neither Lithuania nor Finland opened their World Cup qualifying campaigns with much attacking flair, and Monday’s clash in Kaunas is unlikely to break that pattern. Both sides are tactically conservative, preferring to sit back and strike on the counter — a dynamic that rarely produces high-scoring affairs.

Lithuania suffered a narrow 0:1 defeat to Poland on Friday, but considering the disparity in quality, that result could be seen as respectable. The Poles created 1.73 xG and racked up 24 shots, underlining how Lithuania sat deep and absorbed pressure. That match marked the Lithuanians’ eighth straight defeat, three of which were goalless on their end. They are likely to remain compact at home, relying on opponents to waste chances.

Finland, meanwhile, did just enough to beat Malta (1:0) in their group opener. That result, while expected, still exposed lingering issues in attack. Despite facing one of Europe’s weakest sides, Finland actually allowed more shots on target (5–6) than they managed. After a disastrous six-loss campaign in Nations League B, their priority was simply to get back to winning ways. Joel Pohjanpalo started up front, while veteran Teemu Pukki came on late and had no impact.

A head-to-head clash between two defensively-minded teams is unlikely to produce a thrilling attacking spectacle. Lithuania and Finland will score no more than two goals combined – even a couple of accurate strikes would be a surprise.
