A footballer from a Uruguayan club has died at the age of 27 after losing consciousness on the pitch

Uruguayan football club Nacional's defender, Juan Isquierdo, who lost consciousness during a match, has died at the age of 27, the club's press service announced.

On August 22nd, during the round of 16 Copa Libertadores match against São Paulo, Juan Isquierdo suddenly collapsed on the field despite no recorded contact with an opponent. He was urgently transported to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with heart rhythm abnormalities and increased intracranial pressure. The footballer had been on a ventilator since Sunday and was moved to the neurological intensive care unit on Monday.

Just ten days ago, Isquierdo welcomed his second child.
