Adesanya on Defeat to Du Plessis: "One Dumb Mistake Ruined Everything"

New Zealand fighter Israel Adesanya addressed his defeat to South African fighter Dricus du Plessis in the title match at UFC 305.

“I knew this guy was tough. I knew what to expect. I was taking the fight, but one dumb mistake on the ground ruined everything. I am disappointed in myself. Even though I felt great during the fight, I know you’ve supported me since the start of my UFC career. I lived my dream. I’m already 35. I’m doing the right things. I know some people want to see my losses, they’re waiting for my defeats. But listen: I’m not going anywhere,” Adesanya stated in a post-fight interview.

In the fourth round, du Plessis secured victory over the New Zealander with a chokehold, defending his UFC middleweight title.

The South African has now achieved his eighth consecutive win in the UFC. Du Plessis boasts a professional record of 24 fights, with 22 wins and two losses. Adesanya, meanwhile, has competed in 28 bouts, winning 24 and losing four.
