Aktürkoglu’s goal helps Benfica defeat Red Star in Champions League
Benfica secured a 2-1 victory over Red Star Belgrade in their opening match of the Champions League league stage. The match took place at the Rajko Mitic Stadium in Belgrade.
The Lisbon side saw goals from Kerem Aktürkoglu (9th minute) and Orkun Kökçü (29th minute). The hosts responded with a goal from Milson (86th minute).
With this win, Benfica earned three points and currently sit in 11th place in the Champions League standings. Red Star, with no points so far, are in 25th position.
In the next round, Red Star will travel to face Inter Milan on October 1. Meanwhile, the Lisbon club will host Atlético Madrid the following day.
