Arteta on Rice's red card in the match against Brighton: «I was shocked»

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta commented on the red card received by midfielder Declan Rice in the third round Premier League match against Brighton, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

«I was shocked. Shocked by how inconsistent the decisions can be. In the first half, the referees made decisions twice, and nothing happened in either instance. The incident in the second half occurred outside a critical area; Declan wasn't even looking. According to the rules, you can show a yellow card for that if you want, but it's not mandatory,» Arteta was quoted as saying by Football.London.

At the beginning of the second half, Rice received his second yellow card from referee Chris Kavanagh for kicking the ball away just before the opposition's free kick. This occurred after Brighton defender Joel Veltman had kicked him on the leg.
