Aston Martin Formula 1 Driver Fernando Alonso Sets Sights on Dakar Rally Participation

Aston Martin Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso has revealed his future ambition to participate in the Dakar Rally.

“There are always things you want to do, achievements you want to chase. Right now, I am fully focused on Formula 1. I would be absolutely thrilled to win the Formula 1 championship with Aston Martin—it might just be the highlight of my career, possibly even my life. Victory in Dakar remains on my bucket list. The same goes for winning the Indy 500, although I'm not sure if I will participate in that again. But as for Dakar, I will definitely compete there. Winning in Formula 1, Dakar, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans would be an unprecedented achievement,” Alonso told Racingnews365.

The 43-year-old Alonso is a two-time Formula 1 World Champion (2005, 2006), a World Endurance Champion (2018-19), and a two-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans (2018, 2019). He also clinched victory in the 24 Hours of Daytona in 2019.

The Dakar Rally is an annual endurance rally-marathon, currently held in Asia. The reigning champion of the car category in the Dakar Rally is Qatari driver Nasser Al-Attiyah.
