Barcelona, down to ten Men, fall to Monaco in Champions League opener

Monaco secured a 2-1 victory over Barcelona in their opening match of the Champions League league stage. The match took place at the Louis II Stadium in Monaco.

Goals from Manes Akliouche (16th minute) and George Ilénikhéna (71st minute) gave the hosts their win. Barcelona responded with a goal from Lamine Yamal (28th minute), his first in the Champions League at the age of 17.

Barcelona played the majority of the match with ten men after Eric García received a straight red card in the 10th minute.

With this win, Monaco earned three points and sit in 12th place in the Champions League standings. Barcelona, having failed to secure any points, is in 23rd place.

In the next round, Barcelona will host Young Boys on October 1. Monaco will play away against Dinamo Zagreb the following day.
