Barcelona president Laporta criticizes UEFA Nations League

Barcelona's president, Joan Laporta, has voiced his opposition to the UEFA Nations League.

"I am against the Nations League. UEFA forced this tournament through the backdoor. Players’ rights are not respected, and clubs are the ones paying for this party. This competition needs to be regulated in the interests of both the players and the clubs," Laporta was quoted as saying by Relevo.

The UEFA Nations League was established in 2018. The tournament has been won by Portugal (2019), France (2021), and Spain (2023). It is connected to the European Championship qualification process, offering national teams an additional route to reach the final stages of the continental competition.
