Barcelona to extend contract of injured Bernal

Barcelona is set to extend the contract of midfielder Marc Bernal.

According to insider Fabrizio Romano, the new agreement with the 17-year-old midfielder will run until the summer of 2029. Club President Joan Laporta and Catalan sporting director Deco aim to show their support for the player amidst his serious injury.

Bernal suffered a torn cruciate ligament and meniscus damage during the third round of La Liga against Rayo Vallecano, a match that ended 2-1 in Barcelona's favour. The midfielder underwent surgery on Monday, September 9. His recovery is expected to take about a year.

Marc Bernal is a product of Barcelona's youth academy. This season, the 17-year-old made his debut for the senior team, featuring in three matches without recording any notable contributions.

Bernal's current contract with Barcelona is set to expire in the summer of 2026. He is valued at €1 million by Transfermarkt.
