Brentford pays over €20 million for Liverpool defender

Brentford has announced the signing of Liverpool defender Sepp van den Berg.

The Bees have paid €23.6 million for the 22-year-old Dutchman. Van den Berg has signed a contract with the club that will run until the summer of 2029 and will wear the number 4 shirt for his new team.

“Sepp is a centre-back with a good level and he has the potential to develop even further.

He fits our culture and the way we want to play: he is quick, he reads the game well and is composed on the ball in the build-up and in the decisive defending actions.

Sepp is a great character, and I am convinced that he will fit in well with the group and help us to push forward," said head coach Thomas Frank, according to the official Brentford press release

Van den Berg joined Liverpool from Zwolle in 2019 for €1.9 million. During his time at Anfield, he made four appearances without contributing any goals or assists. Last season, the Dutchman was on loan at Mainz, where he scored three goals in 36 matches.

The player is currently valued at €12 million by Transfermarkt.
