Conor's coach believes that Islam Makhachev has a chance to surpass Khabib

John Kavanagh, the coach of former UFC double champion Conor McGregor, believes that lightweight league champion Islam Makhachev could surpass the achievements of his teammate and coach Khabib Nurmagomedov.

«I am confident that he has a chance to surpass Khabib, but it is challenging. Khabib had fantastic success. Maybe Islam will manage to become a double champion or move up in weight classes. We shall see,» Kavanagh said in an interview with Islam Babajanov.

It is worth noting that Makhachev holds 24 wins and one loss. Nurmagomedov's professional record stands at 29-0.

Khabib Nurmagomedov retired in 2020 after successfully defending the UFC lightweight title three times. Currently, Makhachev holds the lightweight division championship belt.
