Defending US Open champion Gauff eliminated in round of 16

Defending US Open champion and world number three, American Coco Gauff, has ended her run at the tournament in New York. 

In the fourth round of the hard-court Grand Slam, the American tennis star was defeated by compatriot Emma Navarro, ranked 12th in the WTA, with scores of 3-6, 6-4, 3-6. 

The match lasted 2 hours and 14 minutes. Gauff recorded two aces, converted two out of five break points, and committed 19 double faults. Navarro, on the other hand, managed one ace, converted four out of 12 break points, and made two double faults. 

This marks the first time Navarro has reached the quarterfinals of the US Open in her career. She will face Spain's Paula Badosa for a place in the semifinals. 

The US Open will conclude on September 7, with a total prize fund of $75 million.
