Djokovic defeated in the third round of US Open 2024

Novak Djokovic, the 24-time Grand Slam champion and currently ranked second in the world, has bowed out of the 2024 US Open. 

In the third round of the tournament held in New York, the Serbian player lost to Australia's Alexei Popyrin, ranked 28th in the ATP standings, with scores of 4-6, 4-6, 6-2, 4-6.

The opponents battled on court for 3 hours and 20 minutes. Popyrin delivered 15 aces, converted five out of 12 break points, and committed six double faults. Djokovic notched up 16 aces, successfully executed four out of 16 break points, but also made 14 double faults.

In the round of 16 at the US Open, Alexei Popyrin will face American Frances Tiafoe.

The 2024 US Open will conclude on September 8th. The prize fund for this hard-court Grand Slam tournament is set at $75 million.
