Ex-Chelsea Player Believes Women Will Lead Top Clubs in the Future

Former Chelsea forward Tony Cascarino has expressed his belief that women will eventually manage top clubs in men's football.

“This will happen. Yes, maybe not immediately, but it will definitely occur. It’s a matter of time. You know, when I first started playing football, who would have thought that women would become match officials, lineswomen, referees? Everything is changing, though the process is slow. For some, it’s not fast enough. I don’t know how far into the future, but there will be a woman managing an elite team in men’s football. It’s like everything else in life, whatever you are doing. If you’re going to, for example, run a country, head a top football team or a large company, it’s possible. And sometimes it happens slower than people would like. But it will happen inevitably,” Cascarino stated on Talksport.

On June 2, 2023, a female coach took charge of a male club within the Premier League structure for the first time. Lydia Bedford was appointed to manage Brentford's U-18 team.
