Girona Coach: "We will be competitive in every Champions League match"

Girona's head coach, Míchel Sánchez, shared his views on the team's prospects in the Champions League.

The Catalans recently faced a 0-1 defeat against Paris Saint-Germain in their debut match in Europe's premier club competition, owing to an own goal by goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga following a shot by defender Nuno Mendes.

"We are a club that does the right things, and that shows. We’ve got players who have spent a lot of time here, and they deserve to be here today. We won’t get to where we want to overnight. It requires hard work.

We gave a good account of ourselves, even if we didn’t have a huge chance of winning the game. We’ve been working for three years. We deserve to be here. I’m a bit sad about the result, but we’ll get over it.

We’ll pick up points little by little. I’m convinced that we’ll be competitive in each match. It’s not easy to come here, but we got into the game little by little. We showed personality," Sánchez told UEFA's press service.

Girona currently occupies the 27th position in the overall Champions League standings, having not earned any points. PSG, with three points, sits at the tenth spot.

In the next round, the Catalans will host Feyenoord. The match is scheduled for October 2.
