Gündoğan Could Join Manchester City on a Free Transfer

German midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan is set to return to Manchester City, according to AS Diario.

The report indicates that the player will terminate his contract with the Catalan club and join the Cityzens as a free agent.

It was previously reported that Gündoğan had informed Barcelona's management and coaching staff of his desire to leave the club. The Catalans are reportedly willing to part ways with the midfielder in order to ease their wage bill. There have also been indications that the Blaugrana intend to sell the midfielder to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr. Meanwhile, Gündoğan has received offers from Qatar and other clubs as well.

Ilkay Gündoğan played for Manchester City from 2016 to 2023. During his time with the Cityzens, the midfielder made 304 appearances and won the Champions League, as well as five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, two Community Shields, and four EFL Cups.

The German's contract with Barcelona runs until the summer of 2025, and Transfermarkt values the player at €15 million.
