Gündoğan could make return to Manchester City

Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan could potentially return to Manchester City.

According to insider Fabrizio Romano, the English club has reached out to the 33-year-old's camp regarding a possible transfer. The City hierarchy and head coach Pep Guardiola are open to reuniting with the German player.

It was previously reported that Gündoğan has informed the Barcelona management and coaching staff of his desire to leave the club. Barcelona is willing to part ways with the midfielder in order to ease their wage bill. Reports suggest the Catalan side is looking to sell Gündoğan to Saudi club Al-Nassr, although he also has offers from Qatar and other clubs.

Gündoğan played for Manchester City from 2016 to 2023, making 304 appearances, winning the UEFA Champions League, and claiming five Premier League titles, as well as two FA Cups, two Community Shields, and four Carabao Cups.

Last summer, Gündoğan joined Barcelona on a free transfer. In the past season, the 33-year-old midfielder scored five goals and provided 14 assists in 51 matches for the Blaugrana.

His contract with the Catalan club runs until the summer of 2025, and Transfermarkt values the player at €15 million.
