Gündoğan wants to leave Barcelona

Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gündoğan has expressed his desire to leave the club.

According to Diario Sport, the 33-year-old German has informed the coaching staff and management of the Blaugrana about his intention to change teams during the current transfer window.

Relations between Gündoğan and Barcelona have soured in recent months. The Catalan club is willing to sell the midfielder to ease their wage bill and facilitate the registration of new signing Dani Olmo, alongside several other players already in the squad. Additionally, Barcelona head coach Hans-Dieter Flick does not view the German midfielder as a key player in his project.

Barcelona has excluded Gündoğan from their squad for the opening La Liga match against Valencia. However, the club stated that this decision was made as a precautionary measure after the midfielder suffered a bruise in the match against Monaco (0-3) for the Gamper Trophy.

Gündoğan has been with Barcelona since the summer of 2023, where he scored five goals and provided 14 assists in 51 appearances last season.

Gündoğan's contract with the Catalan club runs until the summer of 2025. According to Capology, the 33-year-old German earns just under €19 million per year before taxes under his agreement with the Blaugrana. Transfermarkt values the player at €15 million.
