Guardiola: «If Gundogan plays tomorrow then he knows everything»

Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola has expressed his emotions regarding the return of midfielder Ilkay Gundogan to the club, as reported by the BBC.

The 33-year-old German midfielder has returned to the English club after spending one season with Barcelona.

«He played really well last season [for Barcelona] and I know how competitive it is. I love his qualities and he will give us an incredible alternative. He knows everything so he doesn’t need time to settle. If he has to play tomorrow then he knows everything. He is always in the right position and everyone is so thrilled and happy that he is back. I am sure it is the same from the fans».

Ilkay Gundogan played for Manchester City from 2016 to 2023. During his time with the club, the midfielder made 304 appearances, won the Champions League, five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, two Community Shields, and four EFL Cups.

In the summer of 2023, Gundogan joined Barcelona as a free agent. Last season, the 33-year-old midfielder scored five goals and provided 14 assists in 51 matches for the Catalan side. The player is valued at €15 million by Transfermarkt.
