Gyökeres named Champions League Player of the Week

Sporting forward Viktor Gyökeres has been named the Champions League Player of the Week, as announced by the press office of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA).

The Swedish striker scored a hat-trick in the fourth group stage match against Manchester City, leading his team to a 4-1 victory, including two penalties.

In the voting, Liverpool winger Luis Díaz came second after netting a hat-trick in the game against Bayer Leverkusen, which ended 4-0. Third place went to Celtic's Nicolas-Gerrit Kühn, who scored twice in their 3-1 victory over RB Leipzig. Red Bull Salzburg's forward Karim Konaté claimed the fourth position, having found the net twice in the match against Feyenoord, which also ended 3-1.

This season, Viktor Gyökeres has scored 23 goals and provided four assists in 17 matches for Sporting across all competitions. The Lisbon side is currently second in the Champions League standings with ten points.
