La Liga President: "Glad Barcelona Couldn't Sign Nico Williams"

La Liga President Javier Tebas has expressed his satisfaction that Athletic Bilbao midfielder Nico Williams did not make the move to Barcelona.

"Barcelona wanted Nico Williams, but they couldn't sign him. I am very happy that he is still with Athletic and playing in Spain. I am pleased because it boosts the competitiveness of both his team and La Liga," Tebas said, as quoted by journalist and insider Fabrizio Romano on social media.

This summer, the Catalan club planned to sign the 22-year-old midfielder, but the deal fell through.

Last season, Williams featured in 37 matches for Athletic, scoring eight goals and providing 19 assists.
