Malkin and Crosby have been named the First Stars of the Day in the NHL

Russian forward Evgeni Malkin and Canadian winger Sidney Crosby, both representing the Pittsburgh Penguins, have been named the Players of the Day in the National Hockey League (NHL). 

In a thrilling home matchup against the Buffalo Sabres, which concluded with a score of 6-5 after overtime, Malkin recorded a goal and three assists, marking his 500th career goal in the NHL. Meanwhile, Crosby contributed three points (one goal and two assists), reaching the impressive milestone of 1,600 career points in the league.

Also recognized among the top performers of the day were Canadian forward Bobby McMann of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Swedish winger Leo Carlsson of the Anaheim Ducks.
