Merab Dvalishvili to be nominated for Georgia's highest state award

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has announced his intention to nominate UFC bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili for the nation’s "highest state award" following his victory over American Sean O'Malley in a title fight.

"I wish to congratulate Merab Dvalishvili on this significant achievement. We all followed this important match closely. I want to highlight that for the second consecutive year, a Georgian has emerged victorious in the UFC, which is a unique accomplishment showcasing the exceptional athletic talent of our country and our people. We are continuing this tradition, and together with the Speaker of Parliament [Shalva Papuashvili], we have decided to nominate Merab Dvalishvili for the highest state award," Kobakhidze was quoted as saying by the portal agenda.ge.

The "highest state award" is likely referring to the Order of National Hero of Georgia, bestowed upon citizens for outstanding and heroic deeds in the service of Georgia.

On September 15, O'Malley was defeated by the Georgian fighter Merab Dvalishvili in a title bout at UFC 306.
