Minnesota's goalie scores in NHL game, making history

Minnesota goaltender Filip Gustavsson made history by scoring in the NHL regular season matchup against the St. Louis Blues, which concluded with a score of 4-1 in favour of Minnesota.

The Swedish netminder initially saved a shot from Russian player Pavel Buchnevich before sending the puck the length of the ice into the empty Blues' net. According to the NHL, Gustavsson is now the 15th goaltender in history to score a goal, marking the first time a goalie has scored for Minnesota.

In total, there have been 18 instances in the league where goaltenders have found the back of the net. The most recent was Tristan Jarry of the Pittsburgh Penguins, who achieved this feat in 2023. Notably, featured among the list of goaltender scorers is Russian Evgeni Nabokov, who netted a goal in 2002 during a match between the San Jose Sharks and the Vancouver Canucks.
