Newcastle announces return date for Tonali after betting suspension

Newcastle United has confirmed the date for midfielder Sandro Tonali's return to action following his suspension for betting.

According to the club's press service, the 24-year-old Italian player will be eligible for selection starting from August 28. The Magpies received confirmation from the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) that Tonali's ban will conclude on August 27.

As a result, Sandro Tonali will miss matches against Southampton on August 17 and Bournemouth on August 25 in the Premier League. The Italian midfielder is expected to return to the field for the League Cup match against Nottingham Forest during the week commencing August 26 or for the league fixture against Tottenham on September 1.

It is worth noting that in October of last year, Sandro Tonali was handed a ten-month suspension for placing bets on matches involving AC Milan, where he had played since 2020.

Newcastle signed Tonali from the Rossoneri in the summer of 2023 for a fee of €64 million. Since joining the Magpies, the midfielder has featured in 12 matches, scoring one goal. His contract with the English club runs until the summer of 2028.
