Nunez and Araujo Suspended from Uruguay Matches Following Clash with Fans

Five players from the Uruguay national team have been handed suspensions due to a brawl with Colombian supporters.

According to ESPN, Uruguayan forward Darwin Nunez has been banned for five international matches under the CONMEBOL jurisdiction and fined $20,000. Rodrigo Bentancur received a four-match ban and a $16,000 fine. Jose Maria Gimenez, Matias Olivera, and Ronald Araujo each received a three-match suspension and a $12,000 fine.

To recount, there was an altercation involving Uruguayan players, including Nunez, and Colombian fans. During the incident, Uruguayan players ascended into the stands. At one point, Nunez threw a chair at the fans who were insulting him and making obscene gestures.
