"Only one of five stadiums ready." UEFA criticises Italy's preparation for Euro 2032

Michele Uva, the director of the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA), has highlighted serious issues regarding Italy's readiness for the tournament, specifically concerning the preparation of five stadiums.

"Italy requires five stadiums that meet the Euro 2032 standards, with approved and funded projects. Currently, only one is ready — the Allianz Juventus Stadium in Turin. The Stadio Olimpico in Rome needs some modifications, while the situation with San Siro in Milan is more complex."

A year has passed since the rights to host the tournament were granted, yet little progress has been made. The concerns extend beyond just the five stadiums necessary for the tournament; Italy must also invest in smaller clubs. For instance, Turkey has built 13 new stadiums in recent years, not solely those designated for Euro matches.

"In England, Wembley was demolished, and Brazil is renovating the Maracanã — these were temples of football. I understand that people love and are attached to their stadiums, but we must not assume they are eternal. San Siro is a magnificent monument, but each of the two Milan clubs should have its own modern home that can generate new revenue," Uva was quoted as saying by Football-Italia.

It is noted that both AC Milan and Inter Milan have officially rejected proposals for the renovation of San Siro, citing the costs as prohibitive.

Euro 2032 will take place across 20 stadiums in Italy and Turkey.
