Premier League clubs suffer £1.1 billion loss on transfers from 2021 to 2024

Premier League clubs have incurred a net loss of £1.1 billion on transfers from 2021 to 2024.

The Player Care Group conducted a study on "failed" transfers in the league. A "failed" transfer refers to a deal where a "player purchased or signed for free during the period from 2021 to 2024 was sold or loaned out during the same period and played less than 60% of matches for the entire term of their contract."

The results revealed that nearly one-third of transfers turned out to be unsuccessful, resulting in Premier League clubs suffering losses amounting to £1.1 billion. This notably affected foreign players, with 70% of them not having English as their native language. Additionally, 39% of unsuccessful transfers involved players aged 18 to 21.
