Southgate: "I plan to take a break and then move forward"
Former England national team manager Gareth Southgate has announced that he does not plan to return to work anytime soon.
I think at the moment people know that I need to get my energy back. I had an incredible eight-year journey with the team, it was an absolute privilege to be manager of my country. I worked with brilliant players, and a fantastic staff," Southgate told Sky News in an interview.
Gareth Southgate led the England team since 2016. Under the 54-year-old's guidance, the national team reached the European Championship finals twice in a row. In the Euro 2021 final, England lost to Italy in a penalty shootout (1-1, 2-3 on penalties), while in the Germany tournament they were defeated by Spain with a score of 1-2. Southgate stepped down from his role as head coach of the national team in July.
