Sörloth's goal saves Atlético from defeat against Villarreal
Villarreal and Atlético Madrid played to a 2-2 draw in the opening match of La Liga. The game took place at the Estadio de la Cerámica in Villarreal.
The hosts took the lead with a goal from Arnaut Danjuma, assisted by goalkeeper Diego Conde, in the 18th minute. Atlético's captain Koke then inadvertently scored an own goal in the 37th minute. The visitors responded with goals from Marcos Llorente in the 20th minute and Alexander Sörloth in the 45+5th minute. The Norwegian forward netted in his first official match for the Madrid club.
Both Villarreal and Atlético secured a single point, placing them sixth and seventh, respectively, in the La Liga standings.
In the next round, the Yellow Submarine will face Sevilla away on August 23, while Atlético will host Girona at home on August 25.
