Sterling targeting England recall under new manager

Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling has expressed his desire to return to the England national team.

«Of course, I love playing for England. It is one of the best feelings you can ever have. To see the boys out there brought me joy. To be honest they were the only games I watched — the England ones. I love playing for England. I am looking forward to getting back in the England set-up, that is for sure», — told Sterling BBC.

Sterling was a key part of Gareth Southgate’s reign, particularly at the World Cup in Russia in 2018 and at the 2020 European Championship (held in 2021) but he has not appeared for England since the Qatar World Cup in 2022.

Southgate stepped down as England coach following the Euro 2024 final defeat by Spain and the FA is in the process of hiring his replacement. Sterling, capped 82 times by England — 55 of them under Southgate.
