The England national team coach on the victory over Ireland: "The lads deserve praise"

The interim head coach of the England national team, Lee Carsley, assessed the team’s performance against Ireland in the opening round of the Nations League, which ended in a 2-0 victory.

"I think it was decent in parts. You could see how hard we tried to play. The lads deserve praise; I believe we demonstrated that we have real talent, and we can be very pleased with a clean sheet.

Rice and Grealish scored excellent goals. There were great combinations and brilliant finishes. I think both will go on to score even more in the future.

Credit must also go to Ireland. They’re a very resilient team; they didn’t leave us with much space, and only in the second half did it perhaps open up a bit more. It was a bit difficult to break through, but at 2-0, we started to feel quite comfortable,” Carsley told ITV.

In their next match, England will face Finland, while Ireland will host the Greek national team. Both fixtures are scheduled for September 10.
