The U.S. covered up 91 positive doping tests in horses

An investigation by the Horseracing Integrity and Welfare Unit (HIWU) has uncovered the deliberate distortion of positive doping tests at the University of Kentucky's Analytical Chemistry Laboratory.

According to HIWU's official website, the lab failed to comply with mandatory protocols for sample collection and analysis, particularly in tests for erythropoietin, a performance-enhancing drug. The lab manipulated results, changing initial positive findings to negative.

Scott Stanley, the lab's director, has been dismissed from his position and accused of directing staff not to conduct proper analysis on 91 samples. Initially, these tests indicated doping but were later reported as negative.

Established in 2022, HIWU oversees doping testing and investigates potential violations and fraud in horse racing.
