Varane injured in debut match for Como

Como defender Raphaël Varane was unable to finish his official debut match for the Italian club.

The 31-year-old Frenchman suffered an injury in the middle of the first half during the Coppa Italia Round of 32 match against Sampdoria. Varane was replaced by Edoardo Goldaniga in the 23rd minute.

Varane joined Como this summer as a free agent, signing a two-year contract with the option for an additional season.

The match between Sampdoria and Como took place at the Luigi Ferraris Stadium in Genoa. The game ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation time, with Nicolas Ioannou scoring for the home side and Patrick Cutrone equalizing for the visitors. Cesare Fabregas's team finished with ten men after midfielder Alessio Iovine received two yellow cards in stoppage time.

In the subsequent penalty shootout, Sampdoria emerged victorious, winning 4-3, and progressed to the next round of the Coppa Italia.
