"What Will the Children Say?" FIA Aims to Clamp Down on Swearing in F1 Radio Transmissions

The President of the International Automobile Federation (FIA), Mohammed Ben Sulayem, announced that the organization intends to tackle the issue of swearing during Formula 1 radio communications being broadcast live.

"We must distinguish our sport — motorsport — from rap music. We are not rappers, you know. How many times do they swear per minute? We are not like that. There is them, and there is us. I was a driver myself, so I understand. In the heat of the moment, when you're frustrated because another driver has pushed you out... I’ve felt the anger when driving on the sand. But we must remember to maintain our behaviour and be responsible people. With current technologies, everything is broadcast live, and everything is recorded. Imagine you are sitting with your children or grandchildren, watching a race, and suddenly someone starts using all these bad words. What will your children or grandchildren say? What are you teaching them?" Ben Sulayem told Autosport.

The next Formula 1 event will take place from 20 to 22 September in Singapore.
