Simon Dalton presents his prediction for the EuroLeague match.
In last season's EuroLeague, both teams ended with the same points tally and entered the play-in from ninth and tenth place. However, neither managed to progress to the playoffs. In their last face-off, the Italians came out on top, but can they repeat this outcome?
Virtus Bologna
The hosts have frankly had a poor pre-season, losing three out of four friendly matches. This was followed by a loss to Olimpia Milano in the final of the Italian Supercup, and even a narrow 89:88 victory over Trapani Shark hasn't given fans much hope. Since the season began, the team has had substantial defensive issues, conceding an average of 85.6 points per game. They also commit too many turnovers on offence, averaging 14.3 per game, which ultimately leads to unnecessary points conceded.
Anadolu Efes
On the contrary, the visitors have started strongly. Anadolu Efes claimed the Turkish Super Cup by defeating Fenerbahçe, and in pre-season, they overcame Panathinaikos, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Žalgiris, ALBA Berlin, and Bayern Munich. All these teams are at least as strong as current Virtus Bologna. These victories were secured thanks to excellent defensive play, with the club conceding an average of just 71 points over the last six games. There are no issues with their offence either, as they have averaged 87.3 points in their last three matches.
Virtus Bologna vs Anadolu Efes Prediction
Yes, the Italians were stronger in the last match, but currently, the advantage is clearly with the Turkish club. Even considering the away match, we’re confident that Anadolu Efes's defence will easily handle Virtus Bologna's offence. Also, let's not forget their desire to get revenge for being knocked out of the play-in.
