Super Sunday: The Championships Wycombe Wanderers vs Norwich City

Super Sunday in The Championship sees Wycombe Wanderers, currently at the foot of the table place the runaway league leaders Norwich City in the days 12:00 kick off. The Canaries (Norwich) have won 4 games on the bounce and are currently in a rich vein of form, The Chairboys (Wycombe) have seen a recent uptick too and will be fighting tooth and nail to avoid relegation which means this game is certain not to be dull.

The game is being played at Wycombes home ground Adams Park Stadium but unfortunately due to Covid restrictions there will be no fans inside the ground. Fortunately for everyone wanting to watch along at home live coverage is available on Syksports from 11:30am on the day, with highlights available from multiple sources as soon as the final whistle blows.

Which players should we look out for?

The talismans of both teams are their strikers and both have a good claim to be some of the best value signings in the modern football era. Teemu Pukki and Adebayo Akinfenwa were picked up on Bosman style free transfers they have both led their teams to promotions, Pukki to the Premier League and Akinfenwa back to back from League 2 up into the Championship.

As far as Akinfenwa is concerned the former Swansea, Gillingham and Northampton star finished his first two seasons at Adams Park with 18 goals in each, helping the Blues win promotion to League 1 and collecting the Supporters’ and Players’ Player of the Year trophies along the way. The forward showed his quality, this time in League One, as Akinfenwa became Wycombe's top goalscorer in the English Football League era, scoring 10 league goals on his way to promotion to the Championship for the first time in his career.

Teemu Pukki joined the Canaries on the 30th June 2018, on a free transfer, signing a three-year deal. From January to February 2019, Pukki scored eight goals across six consecutive games, this run included two goals on 10 February in a 3–0 win over Ipswich Town in the East Anglian Derby. In April 2019, Pukki was named EFL Championship Player of the Season and was included in the 2018–19 Championship Team of the Season as well as being named Norwich City F.C. Player of the Season by Norwich City's supporters for 2018–19 and receiving the Barry Butler Memorial Trophy. On 9 August, he scored his first Premier League goal in a 4–1 away loss to Liverpool on the opening day of the new season and eight days later, he scored a hat-trick against Newcastle United in a 3–1 victory. The 2020/21 Season has seen him return to the Championship and his goalscoring form. He has picked up 17 goals this Season, 6 of them in the last 4 games.

Who is going to win? What are the value bets?

Whilst it is impossible to ever say with certainty who is going to win, despite their recent upturn in form the Norwich squad just has that bit too much quality for Wycombe and will see them over the line. The best odds are currently available at Unibet at a shade under 2/1 on represnt cracking value for essentially a banker bet.

As we have already discussed the man of the moment is Teemu Pukki, and any bet on this game should include him as he is sure to feature somewhere. The best value is probably on him to score first which is currently best odds at 888Sport.

On the other side there is Akinfenwa who has yet to find the target this Season which is suprising given his 25 appearances to date. Given that this match will also have an element of "along come Norwich" to it, him to score in the game looks a good bet to us. Best odds available at time of writing are over 4/1 at Parimatch.

Whatever bets you place, we hope that you enjoy watching the game. Please always gamble responsibly.
